Open Space Refurbishment, Island Gardens, London
James Blake Associates was commissioned to carry out concept through to completion, the refurbishment of spaces around an existing apartment block and landscaping within a new development and surrounding streetscape.
The design provides a robust and attractive solution with a welcoming frontage, tranquil inner courtyards, areas for sitting, play, and planting. There is shelter, shade, and varying spaces for different activities.
Low-key, simple and effective features create further interest, including raised planters, and artwork that provides an inspiring interpretation of the area.
The commission also included liaison with the community, co-ordination with a design team, site inspections, and advice throughout construction.
