Flakt Woods
Flakt Woods was the name of this former industrial site, which became a major development site for 750 new homes and associated open spaces.
The play area had a number of key constraints – a steep slope, closely overlooked space, poor drainage, and all dovetailing with the work of an artist separately commissioned.
James Blake Associates used natural play principles to create an innovative and safe play environment. These were suitable for inspiring the imagination of children, such as encouraging role play, adventure, and physical challenge.
Green guide A+ Smart Seats were used for the social area. These were made from recycled chip fat, and thus, very cost effective.
