Valuable insights at JBA – developing practical skills
At JBA, we provide regular work placements and experience for students and aspiring landscape architects, ecologists, and future arboriculture experts. These opportunities allow us to nurture potential talent while enabling students to gain hands-on experience and practical skills in a professional environment. In this blog, a West Suffolk student shares her insights from her recent work experience with us…
Welcoming Environment and diverse departments
During my week at James Blake Associates (JBA), I had the chance to shadow various team members, learning about HR, finance, Executive Assistant, reception, and IT. This hands-on experience provided me with a clear understanding of how different departments work together to drive the company's success, especially in project management and processes that help generate new business. The office admin is an important part in support of the other departments with landscape design, ecology and arboriculture and how they all work together across various projects.
Skill Development and Practical Application:
My work placement allowed me to directly apply the business concepts I’ve been studying in my Business Extended Diploma Level 3 course at West Suffolk College. I gained practical skills in using tools like Union Square for project management and Microsoft Teams for communication, which enhanced my understanding of real-world business operations and the importance of key tools and technology.
Positive Company Culture and Career Direction:
The inclusive and supportive culture at JBA made my experience very enjoyable and memorable. From day one, I was treated as part of the team. This experience has not only strengthened my skills but also clarified my career aspirations, particularly in project management and client relations and highlighted the importance of communication and teamwork in the office environment.
