Decay caused by fungal pathogens is one of the most common reasons for trees to become structurally weakened and potentially dangerous
Where prominent, historically important or protected trees are colonised by decay fungi it is often beneficial to carry out more detailed investigation to inform the tree owner of future management requirements, ongoing cost implications or as evidence to the local authority for an application to remove the tree.
There are many species of fungi and their mode and rate of decay is as variable as their appearance. Therefore, each tree requires individual assessment to ensure correct identification of the fungus and that appropriate management is recommended. The PiCUS© Sonic Tomograph provides an image of the internal cross section of the tree showing the extent of any decay to help inform how the tree is managed.
